HURRY! Adopt a Pet for Free at Local Shelter

A Riverside County supervisor is paying for the adoption fee out of his own pocket for the first 50 people to take home pets Fri. and Sat.

THOUSAND PALMS, CA - Supervisor John J. Benoit and his wife Sheryl will pay the adoption fees for the first 50 pets adopted at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus Friday, as part of an effort to find permanent homes for the region's shelter animals.

Through Saturday, the first 50 dogs and cats more than six months old will be adopted with the usual fees waived. The fee waiver will also be extended to cover the pets' spay or neuter surgeries, as well as microchipping and vaccinations.

Following the first 50 adoptions Friday and Saturday, a special $20 adoption rate will apply to all subsequent adoptions. Regular adoption rates are $105 for dogs and $65 for cats. Dog licenses are not included in the fee waiver.

"There is always a need, especially during summer months, for our great pets to get adopted into caring homes," Benoit said. "We are excited to personally sponsor this event and hope residents will consider visiting the shelter and taking home a new family member."

The Coachella Valley Animal Campus is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
