Incentives Offered for O-Negative Blood Donations

From now until July 3, the La Quinta blood bank will offer gas cards for donations.

By City News Service

A local blood bank will offer gas cards of up to $15 for donations of O-negative blood, which is running dangerously low nationwide, officials with the organization announced.

About seven percent of the population has O-negative blood, but those red blood cells can be used for any patient, making it particularly valuable for transfusions, according to officials from LifeStream. Those with O-negative blood can only receive O-negative transfusions, however.
