On the recommendation of one of our local clients, Kjeld and I swung by Jasmine Thai in Beaumont for a casual business meeting earlier this week. Set in a nondescript brick building on 6th street immediately east of Pennsylvania avenue, Jasmine Thai is the kind of local family-operated eatery that neighbors love to frequent. A place where the whole family pitches in and where regular customers can gain first name recognition.

Family Service

On our way through the door, we were cheerily greeted by one of the younger members of the family, a clean cut boy of about 10. We chose a window table and, a few minutes early for our meeting, dug into light conversation while we waited for our client to arrive. Within a few moments another boy, this one in his early teens, prompted us for our drink order. I chose a Thai Iced Coffee and Kjeld a glass of cranberry juice.

Thai Cuisine

Our order was taken by a sweet middle-aged women with a distinguished accent; Teriyaki Chicken for me (I was served Thai BBQ Chicken by mistake but decided it looked just as good) and Vegetable Delight with Tofu for Kjeld (a staunch vegetarian). Both meals were excellent, though Kjeld complained that his vegetable platter wasn’t filling enough - a critique that falls on deaf ears since he ignores half the menu and forgot to eat his rice :-).

Friendly Atmosphere

Despite being more busy than we expected for a Tuesday evening, Jasmine Thai offered an excellent spot for our meeting. Quiet and friendly, the traditionally themed interior and engaging staff of Jasmine Thai create the perfect background for a family dinner, a quick meal out, or a meeting with a client - like ours.

Bottom Line

We didn’t have an opportunity to delve into the backstory behind Jasmine Thai, we were just too busy this week; a problem we hope to remedy on a return visit sometime soon. Nonetheless, the meal was great and we highly recommend the spot as a great place to satisfy your next Asian food craving.

See you next week!
