L.A. Galaxy Players Lead AYSO Clinic

Clint Mathis, Bryan Gaul and Kenney Walker ran drills for over 80 children from the Pass area at San Gorgonio Middle School.

The L.A. Galaxy helped lead a Pass Area AYSO soccer clinic at San Gorgonio Middle School in Beaumont on Thursday.

Over 80 children from the 2012 fall AYSO season took part in the three-hour clinic, working on drills directly with Galaxy coaches and players.

This is the first time that a Major League Soccer team has visited the pass area, according a statement released by AYSO spokesman Daniel Diez.

Players who attended the clinic included Bryan Gaul and Kenney Walker and coaches included former U.S.A. National Team star striker Clint Mathis. Mathis was a goal scorer on the 2002 World Cup team that reached the quarter finals, helping lead the rebirth of American Soccer in international play.

"The experience to our children will last a lifetime," said Diez. "Pass Area AYSO would like to thank all players, parents, volunteers, board members, employees of San Gorgonio Middle School, the Beaumont Unified School District and Beaumont Police Department for their assistance and support in making this event a truly successful one, as well as to the Lions Club of Beaumont for taking care of the food that was provided to all players."

Due to the success of the clinic, the organization is hopeful it will turn into an annual event.
