Letter to Beaumont and Pass Residents from Diana Reed, Mother of Anthony Martinez
The letter is dated April 4, 2011, fourteen years from the day her 10-year-old son disappeared, and the day before Joseph Edward Duncan III was sentenced to two life terms in the 1997 kidnapping, rape and murder of Anthony Martinez of Beaumont.

Dear Citizens of Beaumont & Surrounding Areas,
Fourteen years ago our quiet little town experienced a horrible tragedy. My son Tony was kidnapped on what should have been a beautiful spring day.
I watched as the citizens of Beaumont and Surrounding Areas rallied together to search for Tony.

Our hearts were broken when we learned Tony was not coming home. His body was found fifteen days later.
I stood by as so many of you grieved with us over our loss. Over the years I have always felt the love and support of our community.

The last chapter in this atrocious saga has been played out. My family and I can finally think upon Tony’s memory without a thought of the monster that killed him.
When the circumstances of Tony’s death came about, I was so stricken with grief that I had been unable to extend my sincerest gratitude to all those who had stood with us through that difficult time.
Please forgive the tardiness of the written Thank You but always know we have been grateful to every single citizen in our hearts everyday throughout the years.
On behalf of my family and most assuredly Tony, we say Thank You from the bottom of our hearts. Without you love and support we would have never been able to see this through to the end.
God Bless you all! Sincerely, Diana Reed - an indebted mom
