Man Accused Of Attempted Murder Tries To Escape Custody: Police

BANNING, CA — A 27-year-old man accused of stabbing an elderly man outside a Banning home remained behind bars Sunday in lieu of $1 million bail.

Freddy Ochoa allegedly stabbed an 81-year-old man at around 9:55 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Drury Lane, according to the Banning Police Department.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim bleeding from his upper body and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers searched the area for a suspect and subsequently arrested Ochoa.

"While preparing to transport Ochoa to a local jail facility for booking process, Ochoa attempted several times to escape custody by running away from officers," police said in a news release.

He was eventually booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of attempted murder.
