Morongo Powwow Marks 25th Anniversary Milestone
Free, family-friendly event celebrating Native American culture starts this Friday, Sept. 25th
The annual Morongo Thunder and Lightning Powwow will celebrate its milestone 25th anniversary this year when the free, three-day family-friendly event celebrating Native American culture kicks off on Friday Sept. 25.
One of the most highly anticipated powwows of the year, Morongo’s powwow celebrates the rich and time-honored traditions of Native American culture through dance, music and art. The highlight of each day is the Grand Entry, a vibrant parade of color and sound that features hundreds of dancers in traditional regalia swirling to the music of dozens of competitive drum groups and singers.
Along with dancers from across North America, spectators will see bird singing and gourd dancing exhibitions. Dozens of Native American vendors will be on hand selling Indian tacos, tamales and frybread, as well as authentic Native American jewelry, beadwork, pottery, clothing and basketry items.
