Motorist Dies in Beaumont Wreck After Slamming Into I-10 Freeway Sign: CHP

CHP officials say the man died at the scene of the overnight crash.

BEAUMONT, CA- A man was killed overnight after crashing off of Interstate 10, into a freeway sign and through a perimeter fence, CHP officials report.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 in Beaumont, just east of Oak Valley Parkway.

The unidentified male driver was driving at about 65 mph when he drifted his 1995 Toyota Camry onto the dirt shoulder, according to CHP reports. It’s not known what may have happened to cause the driver to leave the roadway.

“As the Toyota traveled in a southeasterly direction, it collided into the base pole of a freeway sign,” a collision report states. “The Toyota then spun out of control through a perimeter fence and came to rest on a dirt section of Desert Lawn Drive just south of I-10.”

The man suffered ”major blunt force trauma,” and died at the scene, according to the report.

It’s unclear if alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in the wreck, as CHP continues to investigate.
