After 40 years in vehicle engineering and development I've started my own automotive consulting and used car pre-purchase inspection company. Here are some of the services that are offered:
1. On-site pre-purchase used car inspections: $175.00 per vehicle (Riverside County, LA extra) This service includes:
- Carfax vehicle background check for: Ownership history, title history, structural damage, airbag deployment, accident/flood damage, manufacturer recalls, and odometer roll-back.
- Model assessment: This includes investigating possible known issues with the vehicle you've chosen and to alert you to them. Alternative vehicle models are suggested.
- Multi-point inspection: This inspection identifies proper operation of functional parts.
- Road test: This inspection identifies noticeable abnormalities in the engine, transmission, steering, and suspension system (if permitted by seller.)
- Confirm paperwork is in order.
- DMV fees: Confirmation that no DMV fees are due which will have to be paid to register a new owner.
- Smog Certificate: Confirmation that a valid smog certificate is available which must be provided to register a new title.
- Confirmation of VIN Labels: An inspection to determine that the vehicle identification number (VIN) labels are correct and properly installed.
- Confirmation the vehicle is not stolen.
- Negotiation service: To negotiate a lower asking price from seller.
3. Maximize selling price for your used vehicle: $175.00 per vehicle
- Perform vehicle inspection to identify flaws.
- Determine which flaws should be corrected.
- Carfax history check.
- Determine appropriate selling price.
- Take photos of vehicle for sales ad.
- Publish Craigslist ad and receive responses.
- Coordinate appointment times to show customers.
- Service price reduction consultation: How to get your vehicle issue(s) resolved for less money.
- New car purchase strategy planning.
- Assistance in determining root cause of hard to correct problems.
- Second opinions concerning previous diagnosis.
- Scheduled maintenance strategy.
- Consultation for determining which vehicle to purchase.
- Parts discount from Moss Brothers Parts Dept. and O'reilly Auto Parts.
- Check engine light consultation.
- Lemon law strategy.
- New tire discounts.
- Long distance & stranded vehicle transportation.
- Do-it-yourself services (provide guidance, parts discounts and information sources).
- Initial consultation to determine which model(s) to search for, price range, color, engine, transmission, options, etc.
- Model assessment to determine known weak points and avoid problematic models.
- Locate the vehicle locally or nationally.
- Confirm title paperwork is in order.
- Confirm maintenance records.
- Perform vehicle pre-purchase inspection.
- Arrange for customer inspection of vehicle.
- Negotiate a lower selling price.
- Confirm detail items, spare tire, jack tools, wheel lock, more.
- Arrange transport of vehicle (if necessary).
- Negotiate a lower vehicle selling price.
- Negotiate a lower service price from Repair shop.
- Locate the best new car price.
