Pass Area DUI Checkpoint Announced: Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over

A DUI Checkpoint in an unincorporated area of the Pass Area is planned for Friday. Here's what to know.

BEAUMONT, CA — Drivers, if you are drinking in the Pass Area Friday, you better call a ride share or plan a designated driver.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Gorgonio Pass Area, announces a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Sobriety Checkpoint to be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, in an undisclosed, unincorporated area of Riverside County.

The checkpoint will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. It is set to end at approximately 2 a.m., according to Officer Jason Montez.

"The sobriety checkpoint will be staffed by CHP Officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug-impaired drivers," he said. "Officers will also be equipped with state-of-the-art hand-held breath testing devices which provide an accurate measure of blood alcohol
concentration of suspected drunk drivers."

Offenders will be processed at the checkpoint and booked at either the Southwest Detention Facility or the Larry D. Smith Detention Facility.

The sobriety checkpoint location will be available through CHP Indio Dispatch Center two hours prior to the checkpoint by calling (760) 772-8900.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety provided funding for this program through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
