BANNING, CA — The Apple Fire has exploded in size since it began under suspicious circumstances Friday evening in Cherry Valley.

By Monday morning, it had reached 26,450 acres and 5 percent containment, spreading into San Bernardino County as federal authorities took over management of the blaze.
