Record October Heat At An End: How Hot Did It Get In The Pass Area?

The National Weather Service says relief is on the way, with temperatures expected to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler by week's end.

PASS AREA, CA — Riverside County braced for near triple-digit heat again Monday before the dangerous heat wave drifted from the southland. The National Weather Service says relief is on the way, with temperatures over 10 to 15 degrees cooler by week's end.

The lingering heatwave broke record temperatures in many Riverside County cities Sunday, specifically the desert cities of Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Borrego Indio, Ramona, and San Jacinto.

It was 106 in San Jacinto on Sunday, breaking the record for the day of 102 set in 1996. It was 99 in Ramona, breaking the record for the day of 98 set in 2017. It was 115 in Palm Springs, breaking the record for the day of 112 set in 1980. It was 116 in Indio, breaking the record for the day of 111 set in 1952. It was 111 in Borrego, breaking the record for the day of 108 set in 1991.

According to the National Weather Service, an excessive heat warning remains through 8 p.m. Monday. Cooling centers for people and pets remain open through 6:00 p.m. Monday in the city of Riverside. Riverside County residents can expect temperatures to drop slightly on Tuesday. The Temecula Valley high temperature will fall to 92 degrees, the Riverside metropolitan area will drop slightly to 95 degrees, and the Coachella Valley will remain at 106 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, that weather pattern will remain in effect through the end of the week, with overnight lows falling to the low 60s all week across Riverside and the Temecula Valley. Coachella Valley Lowe's will fall to the 70s.
