Riverside County Supes Will Skip 28 Meeting Days In 2027

The board is on track to end the current year with 25 dark days. Next year, they're planning even more.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA – Riverside County supervisors unanimously approved a tentative 2027 meeting schedule Tuesday, designating days when no meetings will be held.

The full board backed the plan in a 5-0 vote without comment Tuesday.

Board of Supervisors Co-Chair Yxstian Gutierrez, who will serve as chairman next year, has proposed skipping board meetings on 28 Tuesdays, the day the board is scheduled to hold regular open session.

The board can adjust the schedule as needed, and it has done so in previous years.

Most Tuesdays with no meetings generally coincide with, or immediately follow, holidays. However, five days will fall during the board's quasi-summer recess in July and August.

Only four meetings are on the calendar for those two months.

The list also includes a few additional days, allowing supervisors to clear their calendars in March and April, when legislative conferences are planned and religious holidays are observed. A traditional suspension of county business is also planned around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

No month next year has four consecutive weekly meetings planned.

Following is the list of 2027 planned "dark days":

  • Jan. 5 and 19;
  • Feb. 16 and 23;
  • March 9, 16 and 30;
