36-Acre Brush Fire Shuts Down 15 Freeway, Firefighters Remain On Scene

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — The I-15 freeway was briefly shut down Thursday due to a 36-acre fire in Jurupa Valley, according to reports from the scene. According to reports, as of 9 a.m., firefighters contained 40 percent of the blaze, and both directions of the freeway were reopened.

Firefighters from the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department arrived just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday near Limonite Avenue and Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road to battle the wind-driven fire near Eastvale in Jurupa Valley.

The blaze ignited near the 11000 block of Landon Drive and burned through "light, flashy fuels," a spokesperson for Cal Fire reported. The forward rate of spread was stopped by 8:30 a.m., and firefighters announced they would remain committed for five hours.
