UPDATED: Hemet Police Investigating 2 Deaths

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

A suspect was taken into custody Thursday in the shooting deaths of two people at a mobile home park in Hemet, KCAL9 reported.

“We have reason to believe the suspect is known to the victims,” Hemet Police Department Deputy Chief Rob Webb said before the KCAL9 report.

Police declined to elaborate on their investigation, but neighbors theorized that the suspect was a family member of the victims, described as a couple in their 60s.

Webb urged anyone with information on the killings to call the police department at (951) 765-2400.

Police wouldn’t comment on a report by a witness who said he saw the suspect take off on a bicycle.

The victims’ names were being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

“They were wonderful,” Patty Scarff, who described herself as a friend and neighbor of the victims, told ABC7.

“They were the nicest people in the world, involved in a lot of activities. She would decorate our little area on holidays with her ceramics, and he was active in a homeowners association and (played) golf.”
