Wind Advisory, High Wind Warning Issued For Pass Area

The strongest winds will be on the desert mountain slopes and through San Gorgonio Pass, according to the National Weather Service​.​

BANNING-BEAUMONT, CA — Strong, gusty winds will slam parts of Riverside County through Tuesday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory and a high wind warning for the affected areas.

The wind advisory will be in effect from 5 p.m. Sunday through 4 p.m. Monday for the county mountains and San Gorgonio Pass near Banning. The high wind warning will be in effect from 4 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday for the same areas.

For the wind advisory, west winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and isolated gusts up to 60 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service. For the high wind warning, west winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph and isolated gusts up to 80 mph are expected.

Weather officials said the strongest winds will be on the desert mountain slopes and through San Gorgonio Pass.

Forecasters advised motorists to use extra caution when driving.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines," officials warned. "Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."
