Woman On Bicycle Struck, Killed In Ramsey Street Car Vs. Bike Crash: Banning Police

A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured after a car struck two people on bikes late Tuesday, the Banning Police Department said.

BANNING, CA —A vehicle struck two people on bicycles late Tuesday in Banning, killing a woman and seriously injuring a man in the process, authorities said Wednesday.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, police arrived in the 5300 block of West Ramsey Street, where a 33- year-old woman sustained severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to Banning Police Acting Capt. Brandon Smith. A 32-year-old man suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital, but was expected to survive, he said.

The driver, whose name was not revealed, cooperated with investigators and was not injured.

"The bicyclists are believed to be members of the community experiencing homelessness," Smith said. The investigation remains ongoing, and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined.

"The Banning Police Department wants to remind all using local roadways to be vigilant and obey applicable laws for operating a motor vehicle, riding a bicycle, or walking along or near roadways," Smith said.
