IE Woman Dies, Infant Injured In I-60 Crash: CHP

An Inland Empire woman driving with an infant in her car died in a collision Sunday afternoon. Her identity was released on Monday.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A woman who died on the westbound state Route 60 in Moreno Valley on Sunday was identified Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.

Cheyenne Phillips, 24 of Chino, was killed in the crash, the bureau shared after notification of next of kin. The collision occurred just before 2:15 p.m. Sunday west of Day Street.

According to the CHP, a 2014 Acura MDX, believed to be being driven at a high rate of speed by Phillips, passed several vehicles by driving in the center median shoulder when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times and the driver to be ejected into the eastbound lanes of SR 60.

There, in the roadway, she was struck by a 2024 Tesla Model 3 traveling in the eastbound lanes.

Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arriving emergency responders discovered an infant child in the rear seat of that Acura. The infant sustained minor injuries, and the Tesla driver was not injured, the CHP said.

"Alcohol and/or drugs are unknown factors at this time," the agency stated.

No other information was immediately known regarding the infant.

The investigation was ongoing, and anyone who may have witnessed the collision was asked to call 951-324-7210.
