Woman ID'd in Deadly San Timoteo Canyon Crash

The crash happened just outside the Beaumont city limits.

Calimesa, CA– Riverside County sheriff's officials are investigating a deadly crash that killed a local 36-year-old woman and injured two others.

Julia Atkins of Beaumont died after crashing head-on into a pickup truck while driving along San Timoteo Canyon Road, near Palmer Avenue, around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to sheriff's and coroner officials.

"The preliminary investigation revealed the compact car was traveling eastbound on San Timoteo Canyon Road," Sheriff's Sgt. Richard Carroll said in a news release. "The car veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the pick-up truck."

Atkins was found inside the compact car, and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Carroll.

The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger from that vehicle had to be cut from the wreckage and were both taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to Carroll and fire reports.

San Timoteo was closed for several house in both directions following the wreck.
