'Alert' Belmont Officer Credited With Busting Burglary Suspect
Belmont police say the suspect ran away from officers, but was eventually caught.

A San Carlos man is facing several charges after he was caught allegedly trying to steal items from a vehicle parked in Belmont, police said Thursday.
25-year-old Mitchell Taylor was arrested Wednesday afternoon, after a police officer on patrol spotted him in the 300 block of O’Neill Ave, near a parked van, according to Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran. The officer thought the man looked suspicious, and tried to talk to him.
“When the officer went to investigate, the suspect fled, running into a residential backyard in the 1200 block of Irwin St,” Halleran said. “The suspect then jumped over a fence into an adjacent yard, briefly eluding officers.”

After about 10 minutes, though, police caught up with Taylor and arrested him in the 400 block of Harbor Blvd, Halleran said.
“Several items taken from the van, including a laptop computer, were recovered,” he said.
