BELMONT, CA — Belmont's minimum wage will rise to $19.60 an hour on Jan. 1, 2027, giving local workers a 65-cent increase under the city's annual wage adjustment.
The new rate, up from $18.95 in 2026, applies to employees who work at least two hours a week within city limits, including those younger than 18, according to the city's Oct. 23 announcement.
Belmont adopted its minimum wage ordinance in 2017 and adjusts the rate each January based on regional inflation, subject to limits established by the city.
The local wage requirement covers eligible full-time and part-time employees. Employers cannot count tips or other benefits toward the required hourly rate.
Businesses must also notify employees of their rights, display the city's official minimum wage notice and maintain employee pay records for at least three years.
Workers who believe their employers have violated the ordinance can file complaints without fear of retaliation. Belmont contracts with San Mateo County's Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement to investigate potential violations.
Employees and employers can call the county's free, confidential labor advice hotline at 866-870-7725 with questions or concerns.
Additional details are available on Belmont's minimum wage webpage.
