BASEBALL: Burlingame Drops Scots Out of First
Carlmont falls 3-0 behind Grotz's four-hit shutout; Scots lose share of PAL Bay lead with road defeat.
The Carlmont High baseball team fell out of a tie for first place in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division with a 3-0 loss at Burlingame on Wednesday afternoon. Panthers right-hander Zac Grotz topped Scots southpaw Daniel Madigan in a battle of aces, limiting Carlmont to four hits, all singles, in an impressive shutout.
The Scots (16-7, 7-4 PAL Bay) dropped to second place, one game behind El Camino, with three regular season games left. Burlingame (12-11) and Terra Nova share third place at 6-5. The top three PAL Bay finishers earn automatic berths in the Central Coast Section playoffs.
Grotz (5-1) struck out six and walked one, and he thwarted Carlmont by inducing inning-ending double plays in the fifth and seventh innings. Madigan (6-3) allowed five singles and three runs, two earned, in six innings.

Burlingame's Bryan Kuh executed a squeeze bunt to make it 1-0 in the third inning, and teammate Chris Blanton finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
