Breathing low has TONS of benefits. Besides being the most effective for singing, breathing so that your belly expands and your chest stays still is wonderful for your brain and body.
Breathing into the lowest parts of your lungs allows your bloodstream to be more oxygenated, making happier muscles for your body and a more relaxed attitude for your brain.
High chest breathing actually signals your brain to release adrenaline and create anxiety. It also removes carbon dioxide effectively, but does not get as much oxygen in your system.
So, whether you are singing, speaking, or just sitting, practice low, calm breaths.
