Belmont Home Damaged After Clothes Dryer Catches Fire

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to one area.

A Belmont home received significant smoke damage this week after a dryer caught fire, officials said.

According to Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran, the fire was reported just after 9 a.m. Monday at a house in the 1600 block of Robin Whipple Way.

“Upon arrival, emergency personnel found smoke coming out the open front door,” Halleran said. “The occupant of the home got out before firefighters arrived, and she was not injured.”

Firefighters quickly got the upper hand on the blaze, and contained it to the immediate area of the dryer. However, “... the home sustained significant smoke damage,” Halleran said.

“The initial investigation pointed to an electrical problem with the clothes dryer, as the likely cause of the fire,” he said.
