Belmont Police Need Your Help to ID This Thief

Police say the man broke into cars in the downtown area.

BELMONT, CA- Belmont police are asking for help in identifying a man who was caught on a surveillance camera trying to break into a truck in town.

Though he didn’t steal anything from this vehicle, the same man is likely responsible for two other vehicle burglaries, according to Belmont Police Captain Patrick Halleran.

Halleran says that in the early morning hours of Thursday, someone broke into two vehicles in the downtown neighborhood. One of them was in the 1400 block of 5th Avenue and involved tools being stolen from a locked van. The other was in the 1100 block of Harbor Boulevard and involved property being taken from an unlocked truck.

“A security camera on a residence in the 1300 block of Sunnyslope Av captured a male suspect trying the door of a locked truck in the driveway of the residence at approx. 5:24 a.m.,” Halleran said in a news release. ”The suspect is an unknown race male, wearing a knit cap, zipper jacket, dark pants & athletic shoes. He is carrying a reusable shopping bag and hides when a car passes by on the street.”
