Belmont Nuns are Great!

Speaking to over 20 Notre Dame De Namur Nuns and learning that "Nuns are great!" The Sisters, residents of Belmont, were invited to participate in programs at the Senior & Community Center.

Early this week I had the privilage of speaking to the Sisters of Notre Dame De Namur up at the University. The audience of over 20 nuns wanted to know all that the Twin Pines Senior & Community Center of the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department has to offer Seniors. I spoke to them in my outreach capacity and found out that Belmont Nuns are great! They watched the Power Point presentation about Twin Pines Park and our rolling digital picture frame of what we offer at the Senior and Community Center. I found them to be delightful, inquisitive and charming, not your sterotypical idea of Nuns. We chatted about mutual old friends in the Catholic Church and I shared that a Nun in my Oakland Catholic School once turned me upside down in front of the Second Grade class to shake out a quarter I had just swallowed to keep her from taking it away. I had been disrupting class with spinning it like a top on my desk. We all had a good laugh about that. As a former student at NDNU, I can guarantee that Nuns are no longer picking up kids and shaking them by their ankles. Notre Dame De Namur University is so fortunate to have so many of the retired Sisters there and so is the City of Belmont. We hope to see them participating in our programs and maybe even a few volunteering since Nuns are great!
