Devil's Canyon at Waterdog Lake

A community outreach event at Waterdog Lake for volunteer trail building.

Saturday December 10, in Belmont will be host a group of their Craft Brew Fans to partner with the Belmont Park and Recreation Trail Volunteers and Friends of Passion Trailbikes for a morning of trail building at Waterdog Lake.  This is Devil's Canyon's second annual community outreach day to give back to the local area. Everyone is welcome the more the merrier.

The is being re-aligned to make it more accessible to familes, hikers and mountain bikers.  When complete it will be just over a mile long and cross four bridges.

We will have leaders on hand to guide the volunteer efforts but none of it is very complicated.  Since we are hoping for a good number of first time volunteers giving it a try, we will have a mix of tasks on our project list so everyone can pitch in.  We will have a good rocky, muddy section that needs work if you want to get down and dirty (good and muddy).  BUT we will also have tasks away from the mud and we will set up a couple of "bucket brigades" to move construction materials from the dam out to where they will be needed to build retaining walls and switchback paths.

We will plan to finish by about noon so we can enjoy a picnic together on the dam to brag about our work.  Please bring a brown bag lunch. Devils Canyon will be providing some snacks and refreshements for a festive attitude.

Please respond to communityoutreach@devilscanyon.com so we can plan for tools and refreshments.

A few notes and what to bring:

Trailwork is an adult activity.  Minors are welcome to join if working together with a parent or guardian.  There will be work for all physical levels of activity as well as poison oak free work areas.

You should wear long pants and long sleeves as well as sturdy shoes or boots.  A hat and sunscreen is always a good idea.  You MUST bring water (about 1.5 liters) you can carry in a backpack or camelback.  A hand towel can be nice to dry the sweat from your brow.

Thanks and we hope to see you on the trails for this community event!
