Summer Reading Club @ the Belmont Library

There's lots of fun to be had at the Belmont Library this Summer!

Don’t look now, but summer is just around the corner! For kids, that means a break from the daily demands of school. For public libraries, it means gearing up for a busy summer of books, prizes, and lots and lots of family-friendly events with our Summer Reading Club.

The purpose of a library Summer Reading Club for young people is to encourage kids and teens to continue to read all summer so that they will be prepared to read at grade level when they return to school in the fall. Ask any teacher, and they will tell you that reading over the summer is vital to students’ success.

So there’s our not-so-secret agenda. But summer is also about fun, so our club is a reading incentive program where kids receive prizes for reading and are invited to attend our lineup of free family programs all summer. We’ll have musicians, magicians, jugglers, cowgirl tricks, puppets, a live reptile show, and more. It’ll be a blast.

Children can participate as listeners or readers, so our program is open to any child from birth through 5th grade. Kids entering 6th grade can choose either the kids or teen program, with a special lineup of programs for teens, weekly raffles, and a teen photography contest. There’s even an adult program in which adults submit book reviews to enter raffles.

Like all library programs, our Summer Reading Club is free and open to everyone.
