HIIT It

What if you could wrap up your exercise in 20 minutes, while still gaining significant endurance? Enter HIIT-High Intensity Interval Training. I wanted to write about this for a while, but since I had not done it before, I wasn’t sure what it would be like.

Well, today I hopped on a Spin bike (stationary bike) and tried it.

I was dying. So how can you all get in on a piece of the fun?

Here’s what to do. Choose an activity- running, biking, rowing, or even some other type of cardio such as jumps, and do the following intervals:

1:00 at 100% maximum all out effort (Hint-you should be dying at the end of the minute)

1:15 at 40% your maximum heart rate/effort

Repeat this 8 times. Eventually, you can work up to 12 sets of these intervals. But believe me, I was DONE at 8.

Here’s the catch though-for maximum gains, you really have to work hard during that minute at maximum effort. It should be your maximum effort! On the bike, for the intervals I increased the resistance and my pedal speed to increase the difficulty.

Give it a try!
