Kathleen Kane Appointed Interim City Attorney

Kane, who has served as the deputy city attorney for Belmont, will become the interim city attorney effective Feb. 1.

Kathleen A. Kane has been appointed the interim city attorney of Belmont after last month.

Kane, of the law firm Aaronson, Dickerson, Cohn, & Lanzone in San Carlos, was appointed the interim city attorney at the Jan. 11 City Council meeting. Zafferano, a partner at ADC&L, gave notice that he would resign as the Belmont city attorney on Dec. 17.

Kane has served as the city's deputy city attorney and will take over as interim city attorney on Feb. 1.

The San Bruno City Council last month unanimously appointed Zafferano as their new city attorney. Zafferano has served as the city attorney for Belmont since 2005, where he wrote Belmont's sweeping ordinance that banned smoking throughout the entire city. That law sparked an international debate and was viewed by many as the nation's strictest anti-smoking law to date.
