In Memory: Colin Reynolds, 'The Captain' Of Iron Gate, Belmont

Tributes to "bright soul" planned in San Mateo, with "Celebration of Life" in Belmont, along with music tribute set at the local restaurant.

BELMONT, CA —Colin Reynolds, 65, a bright, alive and funny soul, widely missed and known as as "The Captain" of The Iron Gate restaurant in Belmont, suddenly passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.

He worked at the iconic eatery for years, often telling people "it was his life."

Reynolds, born Aug. 21, 1954, is survived by his daughter, Caitlyn, her husband, Aaron, his son, Cory, and two young grandchildren, Melanie and Luca.

The beloved dad and grandpa loved music, laughter, people and "making everyone feel special whenever time was spent with him," according to his family and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 5 at at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church at 600 Columbia Drive in San Mateo with a catered reception at St. Bart's Hall. Also there will be a Celebration of Life memorial service on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. at The Iron Gate in Belmont.

In addition, musical group, Pure Rhythmz, is planning a show dedicated to "The Captain" at The Iron Gate, at 1360 El Camino Real in Belmont, on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

"We will also be dedicating our show to Colin Reynolds, aka Captain of the Iron Gate, RIP BROTHA! Please join us for this special night. NO COVER!" the band said on its Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated at this GoFundMe site, as his "children are in disbelief and need help handling his affairs," according to the fundraiser's organizer.

"He worked at Iron Gate over 50 years and often told his people it was his life," the writer stated. "Colin has two kids and two grandkids and didn't get a chance to let his family know his wishes.

"He left to soon, leaving his kids, Caitlyn, 23, and Cory, 21, to manage his affairs. They need our help for such things as cremation costs, moving expenses, vehicle repair, etc. They do not have the ability to manage it themselves. They so appreciate any help you can provide."
