Every serious musical theatre performer should have a "book" of audition songs. These are the go-to songs that are all worked and ready to sing at the drop of a hat. Much of my work in the studio is helping to prepare auditions and get these books all prepared and ready to go.
There are six types of songs a performer should have ready: 1) an uptempo from a recent musical, 2) a ballad from a recent musical, 3) an uptempo from a pre-1970s musical, 4) a ballad from a pre-1970s musical, 5) a Stephen Sondheim song, and 6) a song from a rock musical.
Start learning your music, folks!!
