Peninsula Police To Fan Out In Special Traffic Safety Operation

BREAKING: Police say they are conducting a traffic safety operation.

BURLINGAME, CA — Law enforcement officers from across San Mateo County will converge this week in a coordinated traffic safety operation, officials announced Tuesday. The latest installment of the Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, is planned for Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

"The STEP program is a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County," officials said in a news release. "The focus of this education and enforcement campaign is traffic safety."

Approximately 20 officers will fan out and look for anyone who is violating traffic safety laws — specifically in Redwood City and Woodside, police said. Redwood City and Woodside residents are being warned that they'll likely see police officers from other San Mateo County cities enforcing laws locally during the operation.
