Police Cite 121 Drivers in Belmont, San Carlos Saturation Deployment
Officers made in excess of 128 stops in the two cities on Wednesday.

The following was submitted for publication on behalf of STEP:
On Wednesday, nineteen officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County participated in the San Mateo County Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). This was the twelfth deployment in 2015 of a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County. The effort was focused in the cities of San Carlos and Belmont.
Officers made in excess of 128 stops in the two cities and issued 121 citations. Of the 121 citations issued,

- 38 were for drivers failing to yield the right of way of pedestrians
- 19 were for distracted driving violations
- 14 were for unsafe speed violations
- 12 were for seat belt violations
- 11 were for stop sign violations
Additionally, there were three drivers found to be driving unlicensed and two drivers found to be driving on a suspended license.
The participating officers remained committed to making a high volume of traffic stops in this coordinated saturation, while maintaining the highest levels of community awareness and professionalism. The number of stops and citations during this most recent deployment reflect a sustained enthusiasm for this program and traffic safety on the Peninsula.

This is the twelfth deployment in a number of planned multi-agency saturation deployments scheduled to be performed throughout San Mateo County in the next year. The San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association has committed to this important safety initiative.
