Ralston Ave. Traffic Project Shifts Into First Gear

Last week's forum was the first step in gathering comments and suggestions for improving traffic on Ralston Avenue.

Approximately thirty members of the community took place in a forum last Thursday hosted by the Belmont Public Works Department . In attendance were residents, members of the Belmont business community, and representatives from local schools and .

The forum was the initial step in informing the public about the Ralston Avenue Corridor Study, which is a Attendees provided comments and suggestions for improving Ralston Avenue to better accommodate vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

The Ralston Avenue corridor can be defined in three segments (based on land use, physical design and operational performance):

  • Western segment--Alameda de las Pulgas to western city limits (Hwy. 92)
  • Middle segment--South Road to Alameda de las Pulgas
  • Downtown--Hwy. 101 to South Road

The next step in the process, which is estimated to take 6-9 months to complete, is to select a consultant to conduct the study. A project webpage has been created by the city to keep the public informed on the project. To view the PowerPoint presentation and other project information, click here.

  • Project start date--Dec. 2012
  • Public meetings to be conducted in early 2013
  • Presently estimating 6-9 months to complete report after notice to proceed.
