RethinkWaste Releases 2010 Annual Report

The report was released on Friday.

RethinkWaste on Friday released its 2010 Annual Report, which highlights the agency's achievements in the past year.

The report also includes statistics on recycling and disposal figures for the RethinkWaste service area, including Belmont.

According to the report, about 91,000 tons of material collected from residents was recycled in 2010, and 75,000 tons of garbage was sent to the landfill. That led to a residential diversion rate of 54.7 percent. In the same period, businesses in the RethinkWaste service area threw away about 133,500 tons of garbage, while recycling 44,000 tons of material.

The report also shows residential diversion rates have increased with the of the new CartSMART Recycle, Compost and Garbage collections services in January 2011; in April 2011 a 69 percent diversion rate was achieved.
