Speed Limit to Increase on Island Parkway
The City Council approved a resolution raising the speed from 30 to 35 mph on Tuesday night.
The Belmont City Council on Tuesday night approved a resolution that increases the speed limit on Island Parkway between Ralston Avenue and Concourse Drive from 30 mph to 35 mph.
The speed limit increase followed a traffic study conducted by independent firm DKS Associates, which surveyed 33 roadways in Belmont to determine whether speed limits should be altered. Of those roadways surveyed, only Island Parkway was recommended to change.
The speed limit recommendations are generally based on a review of the 85th percentile speed; roadway surface characteristics; land uses along the roadside; conditions not readily apparent to the driver; and reported accident history for a recent two-year period, according to staff reports.
