Teen Essay Contest to Celebrate Black History Month
The City of Belmont and the Belmont Library will host a Black History Month Essay Contest. Entries are due on Wednesday, February 22.
From the City of Belmont: Celebrating Black History Month is a way to honor and recognize all that African-Americans have done, not just in the fight for equality, but for the betterment of our country as a whole. The City of Belmont and the Belmont Library are partnering to host a Black History Month Essay Contest. Entries due on Wednesday, February 22nd by 11:59pm.
Prompts:
- Describe an African-American today, in your life of community, who is making a positive impact on history & how.
- What event in Black History do you think most influenced America’s way of life and why?
- Describe what the following Booker T. Washington quote means to you: “More and more, we must learn to think not in terms of race or color or language or religion, or political boundaries, but in terms of humanity.”
Guidelines:

- The contest is open to students in 6th-12th grade.
- Essays must be based on one of the three prompts listed above.
- Only one entry per person.
- Essays should be no longer than 500 words and should be typed.
- Entries must be submitted by Google Form here.
- Entries due by 11:59pm on Wednesday, February 22nd.
