Water Back On For Cipriani Residents
An early morning water main break shut off water to customers in the Cipriani neighborhood Sunday morning.
Some residents along Cipriani Boulevard and nearby streets were unable to make their morning coffee or brush their teeth on Sunday morning, as their water had been shut off overnight due to burst pipe.
At about 1:00 a.m. Sunday, crews from Mid-Peninsula Water District were alerted to a water main break in the 2500 block of Cipriani Boulevard. By about 1:30 a.m., emergency crews were on the scene jackhammering down into the the area where the 8-inch cast iron pipe has split.
Bill Meade, who lives across the street from the broken pipe woke at about 3:00 a.m. when heard the crews at work.
"My wife thought someone was in our backyard, but I told her nobody would be in our yard with jackhammers at 3:00 a.m.!" said Meade.
"This is the third time this has happened in our neighborhood in about the last two years," said Meade.
He said a water main had broken on Ponce, and two blocks down on Cipriani in recent years.
It was unclear how many homes had been affected by Sunday's water outage.
MPWD crews worked through the night to replace a 12-foot section of pipe. By about noon Sunday, crews were confident water service would be restored within the hour.
