Woman Slams Into Belmont Pole, Knocking Down Power: Police
Police say that the utility pole was sheared off at the base.

BELMONT, CA — A utility pole was knocked down — taking out area power with it — in a Belmont traffic crash on Tuesday, police report. The two women in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
According to Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran, the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. along Alameda de las Pulgas at Monroe Avenue.
"Upon arrival, Officers found that a black 2014 Honda CRV had collided with a utility pole, shearing it off at the base," Halleran said in a news release. "The occupants of the vehicle, two woman in their 30s, were treated at the scene for minor injuries by Belmont Fire Department paramedics."

A police investigation revealed the women in the SUV were traveling south on the roadway when, for unknown reasons, they veered to the side and drove up an embankment. That's when they crashed into the pole, according to police.
Power was initially knocked off for about 500 area customers as a result of the crash. Police say PG&E crews worked through the night on repairs -- which will include a new pole.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, which is still under investigation. Halleran said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected.
