Yoga in a quiet setting

Something rather odd yet comical happened to me at Twin Pines Park the other day. I was doing yoga with a client on the pavement in the parking lot. It was a very quiet morning, there were no more than two other cars there. A woman drives up and parks right next to our yoga mats. She gets out of her car and begins to rant that we are parked where she would like to park and that we had no business doing yoga in that parking space. We look around and propose that perhaps she park in one of the myriad of parking spaces available. She says she wants to park in this particular spot because it has shade, though it was brightly lit which is why we spread our mats out there in the first place. Because we respectfully refused to move for her car, she said that she would read her paper aloud while we practiced our yoga and began to spew words from an article from her morning paper. This rattled me. Where did this woman come from and why did she decide to hone in on our peaceful territory? My client is a wonderfully, strong woman who handled the situation better than I. She said to this irrationally charged woman, "Here are your choices: you either find another parking place or stay where you are but we are not moving." The driver resolved to calling the police to complain about us as my client and I continued to practice our yoga postures. Since we didn't budge, the woman drove off continuing with her raging words while we waved and wished for her to "have a nice day". A few minutes later, the police supervisor cruised right up to our spot. For a moment, we wondered if we were going to be asked to move. The officer opened his window and with a big smile, said, "have a great day." We all laughed at the madness and while the police man drove away, my client and I took a deep breath and recognized how unhappy and bitter that woman's life must be and how grateful we are for not being in her shoes.
