As we drove home from the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Chicago on New Years' Eve, the snow really started to come down hard.
The streets of the Chicago suburbs are nameless to the uninitiated (me), and in the dark, on snowy roads with more snow falling fast, I found myself wondering... "What would we do if we found the car could go no further in the snow?" "What if we took the wrong street?" We couldn't afford to make any mistakes.
We passed a little tavern with a glass window, and saw a couple of fellows having a drink - at different tables. I couldn't help wondering if they didn't have someplace else to be on New Years' Eve.
I wondered what the homeless people were doing to avoid the cold and snow.
We made it back to the deck that was waiting for the next photograph.
Our flight was cancelled the next day... January 1st, 2014.
The snow kept falling all day and all night, and it was still falling when we awoke today, January 2nd.
We made it out on a flight today, with some understandable delays, and an entire hour of the airplane squeaking out seemingly inch by inch along the runway.
And yes, the snow was still falling.
Enjoy the sunshine! How lucky we are!
