After 12 Hours, Man Climbs Down From Tree, Agrees to Head Check
A man confounded police and firefighters by refusing to get out of a Long Beach tree for 12 hours, but reason won out eventually.

A man remained in a tree for more than 12 hours, refusing to budge, but finally came down and told Long Beach police officers he was ready to seek a mental evaluation, police said today.
Witnesses reported seeing the unidentified man in a tree at Third Street and Orange Avenue about 11 a.m. Sunday, said Long Beach police Sgt. Megan Zabel.
It was not immediately determined if drugs or mental illness were factors in the incident, Zabel said, adding that the man refused to identify himself.

“At approximately 11:45 p.m. the man in the tree came down on his own free will and told the officers he was ready to seek medical attention for a mental evaluation,” Zabel said. “He was not injured in any way.”
Police officers took the man to a local hospital for a mental evaluation, Zabel said, adding that “he is not being charged with any crime at this time.”
