Donna Hilbert, Keeping the Poetry Flowing

The poetry is still flowing in Long Beach.

I am still high from Saturday’s Beside the City of Angels: A Long Beach Poetry Festival. At one point, I counted 87 people in the room and there were never less than 40.  I think this is spectacular for a 10-hour poetry reading.  The poetry fun continues this week with the “Hump” reading Wednesday, October 19, 7:P.M. at Gatsby Books, featuring Marianne Stewart. To whet your poetic appetite, here is a poem by Marianne:

It Had Been a Rough Week

Then, my mom called
And told me to meet her at the ER.
My grandmother had collapsed.
And as I rushed out of my apartment
At the bottom of the stairs
My neighbors were gathered
And shouting.
All I could think was,
“What now?”
As I looked down
And saw their baby
Walking
For the first time.
