NEW BLOGGER: Keep on Food Truckin'

Come sink your teeth in Belmont Shore's closest food truck event every Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Editor's Note: Today we introduce our newest blogger, Kaleigh Laurino, a Cal State Long Beach student, who will take us to the food trucks weekly and keep us up on what's new in the popular eating trend. Look for her regular posts, and feel free to share what you're like most in the fare. Remember there is always room for more blogging voices, so e-mail your interest at nancy.wride@patch.

Every Wednesday afternoon around 11:00 a.m., seven food trucks make there way into the rear of a Walgreen's, where they are greeted by hundreds of hungry foodies. The only Long Beach food trucks, about two miles away from Belmont Shore, draw the most diverse crowd, from business-formal men and women to the casual average Joe. Everyone seems to love the food.

My last experience with this marvelous event led me to the very different but delicious food at seven trucks. One truck that stood out to me the most was called “The Lime Truck.” It had a line like I have never seen at a food truck before, so naturally I had to see what all of the buzz was about.

The menu was very promising. It had things like “Ahi tuna poke nachos” that were packed with pickled veggies, and fresh tuna served on freshly made chips; and another item called “Yum Yum Lamb Sandwich” that was a Greek food lover's dream. The “Yum Yum Sandwich” was stacked with lamb, tzatziki sauce, traditional veggies, and served in toasted flat bread.

Another item that struck my interest was the Roasted Corn. I thought my uncle Jeff made the best corn on the cob in town, but I was sorely mistaken. This was not like any other corn on the cob; it was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The corn was roasted just to the right degree and it was served with a spicy lime sauce that could make you melt. Cotija cheese was sprinkled over the top to finish off this tasty new addition to the menu.

If you are in the Belmont Shore area around 11 a.m tomorrow afternoon, I highly recommend paying a visit to the Lime Truck. All of the trucks will be camping out just about two miles from Belmont Heights, specifically behind the Walgreen's at the corner of Redondo and Anaheim. Look for six or seven brightly colored trucks.

The earlier you get there the better. Limited benches are available but there is plenty of room to stand and eat, and many do. I will be attending tomorrow and sampling may of the delicious and crazy items that these food trucks have to offer. Check out my blog Wednesday! I will report the day's experience and what is to come next week!
