Attendees will receive health and nutrition information, can sample healthy recipes, get tours of the garden and start their own vegetable garden, participate in yoga, Zumba, and/or martial arts demonstrations, and kids can participate in hands-on bike safety lessons from Safe Moves. The event brings together partners from Long Beach Parks, Recreation, & Marine, City Fabrick, Long Beach Community Action Partnership, the Long Beach Peace Garden, and many other community programs that provide free interactive nutrition classes and skill-building activities designed to empower individuals to lead healthier lifestyles and to decrease the risk for obesity and related chronic diseases.
The Healthy Active Long Beach Project is made possible thanks to a grant received from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the California Department of Public Health’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch, a public health effort working with hundreds of partners and organizations to empower low-income Californians to live healthier lives through good nutrition and physical activity. Funding is from USDA SNAP-Ed, known in California as CalFresh. USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer. For CalFresh information, call 1-877-847-3663.
