Digital Wizards Teams with LEGO(r) User Groups for Awesome Video

The LEGO(r) Group Issues a Challenge.
The LUGs have been handed a challenge by The LEGO® Group (TLG). Host an event... an activity... do something with the promotional kit, Winter Skating Scene, 40107. Each LUG was provided with 60 kits to share with its community. Complete your activity by October. Tag it with #LEGOWinterSkating and share on Flickr or Instagram.

The LUGs Collaborate.

A flurry of emails followed. We, here in the Los Angeles area, are very lucky. We have multiple LUGs and lots of LEGO® fans. We have the Hollywood influence. We have Paul Hollingsworth and Digital Wizards.

For this event, coordinated by LUG Ambassador Chris Wight, the LEGO® User Group of Los Angeles (LUGOLA), the Orange County LEGO® User Group (OCLUG) and the Long Beach LEGO® User Group (LBLUG) got together. The LEGO® Group’s community support team threw in extra kits. The date was planned and re-planned.

A LEGO® Zoetrope.

There it was. Paul had an idea for a Zoetrope that he’d wanted to do, and this was a great opportunity!

Zoetrope. A 19th-century optical toy consisting of a cylinder with a series of pictures on the inner surface that, when viewed through slits with the cylinder rotating, give an impression of continuous motion.

There is a nice Zoetrope on display at Disney’s California Adventure park.

You know I was there.

How could I miss this opportunity? How could any LUG member whose day was not already committed? The excitement mounted as the day approached.

There were 220 copies of the Winter Skating Scene at the Event.

I could spend a lot of time writing about the meeting. About the great conversations with the new members who were drawn in by the opportunity to commune at Paul’s home which is also the production location for many a video. About the incredible opportunity to be a part of LUG history.... Because you know that we will be talking about this day for a long, long time.

It was a truly awesome day.

I sat in a double decker couch.

I helped to sort LEGO® bricks.

I learned some about LEGO® Trains and connected with some of the folks who are participating in the World Robot Olympiad.

I took photos and video as the day progressed. Check it out here.

I talked to Stephen Pakbaz, who worked on the Mars Curiosity Rover and designed the LEGO® Mars Curiosity Rover set that was released last year. It was an instant sellout.

There was a lot of LEGO® community that day.

Trish Tsoiasue is a certified LEGO® Serious Play facilitator. She is the LUG Ambassador for the Long Beach LEGO® User Group which serves events in the Long Beach area. She is the Southern California coordinator for the World Robot Olympiad qualifier. She shares her love of the LEGO® brick with others through classes, clubs and special events offered by Makersville.net.
