Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for Long Beach

The Long Beach City Council-approved installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations throughout highly-trafficked areas and City-owned parking lots of Long Beach will begin early this year.

The installations, which were approved on Nov. 13, 2012 by the Long Beach City Council, led by an electric vehicle-driving Mayor Bob Foster, come with a no-cost three-year contract with ECOtotality North America.

“Long Beach has a strong commitment to promoting sustainability and alternative fueled vehicles, and this partnership will provide additional electrical charging infrastructure throughout Long Beach at no additional cost to the City,” Mayor Foster said in a written release. “We are making it easier for residents and visitors to operate alternative fuel vehicles, and improving air quality.”

Approximately 12 stations, which are planned to begin operating early this year, will be distributed around City-owned lots like the Long Beach Convention Center, the Long Beach Airport, the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary.

More stations may be added if customer demand is high enough, City Hall suggested.

The projected chargers will be Level-2, 240-volt and DC Fast Chargers. Users will be able to search for their locations via a cell phone application.
