Share the Love Used Clothing Drive

Hughes & Longfellow are "Sharing the Love"

On Saturday, February 25, from 11am to 1 pm,
Hughes Middle School and Longfellow Elementary will team up with Goodthrift Used Clothing Recycling to
host a Used Clothing and Toy Drive. The event is open to the whole community. Drop off items on the Longfellow Upper Playground, on California Avenue between Bixby and Roosevelt.
We are hoping to gather 10,000 pounds of material!
Donations accepted include:
 - Clothing
- Accessories (pocketbooks, backpacks, hats,
gloves, ties, scarves, belts, etc.)
- Household fabrics (bedding, curtains, towels, bath mats, etc.)
- Toys (hard toys including trucks, blocks, Legos, etc. and YES -- STUFFED ANIMALS and other
soft toys
are accepted!)
The benefits of clothing recycling are four-fold: 1) It raises money for our schools! Goodthrift will pay per pound for everything we collect.
2) It ensures that useable fabrics and other materials do not enter the waste stream. According to the EPA, recycling prevents 2.5 billion pounds of
textile waste from entering landfills every year.  3) It employs many tens of thousands of workers in over 1000 recycling businesses and organizations; and 4) Millions of individuals benefit from the products, perations, and programs created by the recycling of textile waste. Please join us on Saturday, February 25 to "Share
the Love" with your used clothing and toys.
Start looking through your closets for stuff to get rid of
today! For more information regarding this event, please contact Hughes Green Team Adviser, Cathy Procopio at
