Underwater Parks Day

Presentations by an underwater photographer, the Aquarium’s abalone expert, and a diver participating in a local monitoring project will take place at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. in the Aquarium’s Honda Theater. Photos taken above and underwater at MPAs will be on exhibit. Movies, hands-on activities, and informational tables will be presented in the Great Hall. Underwater Parks Day is an event held at multiple aquariums around Southern California. Visitors to the Aquarium of the Pacific are invited to learn more about California's network of forty-nine Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) covering approximately 354 square miles of state waters. Guests will be able to learn how they can enjoy visiting MPAs and about the commercial and recreational activities permitted. MPA stories will be told using films and interactive exhibits. The event will also feature a presentation by an underwater photographer and educational booths and activities in the Great Hall. As guests explore the Aquarium to meet over 11,000 animals, they will also encounter animals and plants that inhabit the waters off Southern California, including sea lions, sharks, rockfishes, and spiny lobsters. Cost: General Admission--$24.95 adult (12+), $21.95 senior (62+), $13.95 child (3-11), and free for children under age 3 and Aquarium members. Location: Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, CA 90802 Info/Tickets: 562-590-3100 or http://www.aquariumofpacific.org/events/info/underwater_parks_day/
